Gerard Butler and Hayley Atwell Join Forces for Action Film

Gerard Butler and Hayley Atwell are set to star in the upcoming action film Empire City, which will center around a dramatic hostage crisis. Production is scheduled to commence this month, although the film currently lacks a distributor. Sales efforts are expected to continue next week at the American Film Market.

Plot Details and Creative Team

The film’s official synopsis reveals that the story unfolds inside New York’s iconic Clybourn Building, where Butler plays firefighter Rhett. Faced with a hostage situation, Rhett, alongside his squad and NYPD wife Dani, portrayed by Atwell, must navigate the perilous environment to rescue the captives.

Directed by Michael Matthews, known for his work on Love & Monsters, the screenplay is co-written by Brian Tucker and S. Craig Zahler. The production team includes Butler and Alan Siegel from G-BASE, as well as Marc Butan from MadRiver Pictures and Paul Currie. Executive producers are Quirin Berg and Alexander Janssen from Leonine Studios.

Cast Backgrounds and Future Projects

Butler is known for his roles in various films, including the recent Den of Thieves 2: Pantera and the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, where he reprised his role as Stoick the Vast. He is also set to return as John Garrity in Greenland 2: Migration, a sequel to the 2020 survival thriller.

Atwell, who gained recognition for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently starred alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. There are also rumors about her potential return as Peggy Carter in the much-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.

As excitement builds for Empire City, both Butler and Atwell bring significant star power to the project, promising an engaging addition to the action film genre. The combination of a gripping storyline and a talented cast sets the stage for what may become a noteworthy release in the coming years.
