Ronald E. Gerhardt, age 78, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. Known for his warmth and kindness, Ron’s legacy as a devoted family man and accomplished athlete will be remembered by many.
A Life Rooted in Family and Community
Born in Fairmont, Minnesota, Ron grew up in a close-knit environment where he worked on the family farm. His early years were marked by leadership and athletic talent; he served as captain of both the football and basketball teams during his school years. His skills on the football field earned him a full-ride scholarship to the University of South Dakota, where he played as a tight end and started for four years. Ron’s contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into both the Fairmont Hall of Fame and the University of South Dakota Hall of Fame for football.
After completing his education, Ron dedicated himself to a successful career with Hormel, where he worked for 40 years, showcasing not only his professional commitment but also his loyalty to the community and his colleagues.
A Cherished Family Legacy
Above all, Ron was a family man who deeply loved his wife, Vicki, with whom he shared 31 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built and cherished their dream lake property near Sherburn, Minnesota, affectionately named “A Ltl Bitta Haven.” This serene retreat became a place for family gatherings, where Ron enjoyed working on the property and spending quality time with his loved ones.
Ron was also an enthusiastic participant in music, inspired by his late brother, Brad. He joined the Harmony Junction barbershop chorus and performed in quartets and church choirs. The music they created together was a significant part of Ron’s life, resonating with fond memories and shared joy.
A proud father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ron is survived by his wife, Vicki; his children, Jodi Rindflesch, Jason Gerhardt, Tony Roe, and Angie Tomlinson; and his 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings: Wayne, Elaine, Beverly, and Milah. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Gloria Gerhardt, his brother Brad, and his granddaughter, Gracie.
Ronald E. Gerhardt’s larger-than-life personality and gentle demeanor earned him the nickname “gentle giant.” His warm hugs and loving nature will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Memorial contributions can be made to Mayo Hospice or the Sweet Adeline Zumbro Valley Chorus. Ron is now at peace, forever at home.
