Philadelphia is set to usher in 2025 with a vibrant New Year’s Eve celebration featuring spectacular fireworks and a concert headlined by renowned hip-hop artist LL Cool J. As tens of thousands gather in Center City, the city is making extensive preparations to accommodate the anticipated crowds, ensuring a memorable evening for all attendees.
The Visit PA New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront will dazzle spectators on the Delaware River with two shows on December 31, 2024. The first display is scheduled for 18:00, followed by a midnight extravaganza. These fireworks will be visible from Penn’s Landing and various nearby waterfront locations, offering an enchanting backdrop to the festivities.
To manage the influx of visitors, city and transit officials are advising against driving due to expected heavy congestion. Instead, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) recommends using the Market-Frankford Line to reach 2nd Street Station or taking Bus Routes 5, 12, 17, 21, 25, 33, or 42 for convenient access to the waterfront.
First Outdoor New Year’s Eve Concert
Adding to the excitement, Philadelphia will host its inaugural outdoor New Year’s Eve concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, near the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The concert gates will open at 18:00, with the show beginning at 20:00. Alongside LL Cool J, the lineup includes DJ Jazzy Jeff, Adam Blackstone, Dorothy, and Technician The DJ, promising an unforgettable night filled with music and celebration.
SEPTA is implementing modified service schedules to accommodate the increased demand on New Year’s Eve. On December 31, Regional Rail trains will operate on a weekday schedule, with special late-night services added on several lines, including Chestnut Hill East, Fox Chase, and Trenton. Riders are encouraged to check individual train schedules for details on departure times, fare zones, and wheelchair accessibility.
Transit Adjustments for New Year’s Celebrations
In addition, all Metro lines will follow a weekday schedule, while extra trains will be deployed on the Broad Street Line and the Market-Frankford Line before and after the fireworks display. Selected bus routes will also run on a modified weekday schedule, with comprehensive information available on the SEPTA website.
As the celebration transitions into the early hours of January 1, 2025, bus routes will be detoured starting at 08:15 to facilitate preparations for the traditional Mummers Parade. A range of bus routes will be affected, and SEPTA officials recommend checking the Alerts and Detours page for the latest routing updates.
On New Year’s Day, transit services will operate on a Sunday schedule, with Bus Route 204 not in service. With a dazzling fireworks display, a highly anticipated concert, and extensive transit preparations, Philadelphia is poised for one of its most ambitious New Year’s Eve celebrations in recent years.
