The shooting occurred on December 9, 2023, when the gunman opened fire inside the Barus & Holley building, striking students amidst exam preparations. As of Sunday, the injured students are receiving treatment at local hospitals; one has been released, while seven remain in critical but stable condition, and one is in critical condition. Among the wounded is Kendall Turner, a recent graduate from Durham Academy in North Carolina, who is currently hospitalized with her parents by her side.
Authorities have identified Benjamin Erickson, a 24-year-old man from Wisconsin, as a person of interest in custody. He was taken into custody at a Hampton Inn hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island, approximately 20 miles from Providence. Despite the recovery of two handguns and loaded magazines, no charges have yet been filed against him.
