URGENT UPDATE: A Vallejo High School safety supervisor, Rueben Carter Freeman, has been arrested for multiple sexual crimes involving a student, including soliciting sexual acts. The incident unfolded on October 5, 2023, when Freeman fled the campus upon learning that police had been alerted about his behavior.
Authorities quickly located Freeman running nearby and detained him without incident. An investigation by the Vallejo Police Department revealed alarming details: Freeman had forcibly taken a student’s phone and threatened not to return it unless she complied with his demands. He allegedly solicited sexual acts from the student and held her against her will, preventing her from leaving the classroom while still in possession of her phone.
Freeman returned the phone only after the student acquiesced to some of his demands, raising serious concerns about student safety at the school.
Vallejo Police Chief Jason Ta emphasized, “Protecting students is a core responsibility of this department. When we receive information about concerning behavior on a school campus, our officers respond quickly and decisively.” He assured the community that those who engage in harmful behavior will be held accountable.
Freeman has been charged with soliciting lewd acts in public, false imprisonment, and robbery. As of Thursday morning, he remains in custody at the Solano County Jail with a bail set at $70,000.
Calls to Vallejo High School regarding Freeman’s employment status following his arrest have not been returned. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any further information related to this case. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact Officer Brad Bermann at (707) 648-4321 or via email at [email protected].
This shocking incident raises urgent questions about safety measures in schools and the protection of students from predatory behavior. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
