UPDATE: Starting this weekend, the enforcement of the new Boca Grande Parking Ordinance will officially begin, confirmed by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. An electronic signboard is set to be installed at the county line today to alert both residents and visitors that these crucial parking laws are now in effect.
Todd Olmer, public affairs captain for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, stated, “When deputies observe violations, they will continue to use discretion and will issue warnings or citations on a case-by-case basis.” This approach aims to foster compliance while ensuring that the local community is actively informed about the changes.
The new regulations introduce strict parking restrictions across the island, including designated parking passes for residents and local workers. Hotels and rental units will distribute paper passes, while homeowners can request guest passes for visitors requiring street parking. Notably, a three-hour parking limit is now in place for those without a parking pass in town areas, including at 5th Street. However, for events of “limited duration,” parking passes will be exempt.
Churchgoers on Gilchrist can take advantage of special parking provisions, allowing for median parking on Sundays from 3rd to 5th streets.
To facilitate compliance, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled multiple dates for residents to pick up their parking permits. These sessions will be held at the Crowninshield Community House from 9 a.m. to noon on the following dates:
– February 2
– February 4
– February 9
– February 11
– February 12
– February 16
– February 18
– February 19
– February 23
– February 25
– February 26
As the new enforcement period commences, community members are urged to familiarize themselves with the updated parking rules. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the Boca Grande community’s role in educating everyone about these changes, emphasizing the importance of cooperation during this transition.
Stay tuned for further updates as the enforcement begins—this is an ongoing situation that could affect your plans this weekend. Make sure to share this information with friends and family to ensure everyone is prepared!
