BREAKING: Tesla has decisively claimed the top spot in JD Power’s 2025 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study, achieving a score of 873 points out of 1,000, more than double that of traditional automakers like Volkswagen. Despite this impressive lead, Tesla will not receive any awards due to eligibility complications.
The survey, conducted by JD Power, gathered responses from owners of new 2025 model-year vehicles. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the study. Tesla’s score significantly surpasses that of Volkswagen, which earned a mere 426 points, and Toyota, which scored 420 points. Rivian followed behind Tesla with a notable 730 points, solidifying its position as a strong competitor in automotive technology.
However, both Tesla and Rivian were disqualified from receiving awards due to not meeting JD Power’s award criteria. According to reports, one of the requirements states that automakers must be sold in all U.S. states. Consequently, the top award went to Genesis, which scored 538 points, despite trailing behind in overall performance. Cadillac and Lincoln followed Genesis with scores of 526 and 523 points, respectively.
JD Power also revealed that technology-related issues reported by drivers decreased by 6.3 per 100 vehicles compared to the previous year, enhancing the overall user experience. Drivers particularly praised features like automatic climate control, which effectively manages heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
“Smart technology not only seems to anticipate the driver’s needs but also reduces the cognitive workload and some of the difficulties that drivers face with digital systems,” said Kathleen Rizk, senior director of technology at JD Power.
However, not all technology features received high marks. The “car wash mode,” designed to prepare vehicles for automated cleaning, frustrated many users due to its location within infotainment menus. Additionally, some drivers reported issues with recognition systems that occasionally malfunctioned.
In contrast, the blind spot camera was highly favored, with 93% of drivers indicating they use it regularly, and 74% expressing a desire for the feature in future vehicles.
As Tesla continues to lead the charge in automotive technology, the implications for the industry are significant. The findings from this survey highlight a growing consumer expectation for advanced features, pushing traditional automakers to innovate or risk falling behind.
Stay tuned for more updates on how these developments will impact the automotive landscape and consumer choices.
