BREAKING: Houston Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti has been activated off the injured list and is set to start against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Arrighetti has been sidelined since early April due to a broken thumb sustained from a line drive while warming up before a game on April 7.
“It kind of feels like my debut all over again,” Arrighetti stated, expressing his eagerness to return to the mound. “It feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve been up here,” he added, according to MLB.com.
Arrighetti completed three rehab starts prior to his activation, where he posted a record of 1-1 with a 5.59 ERA in two major league starts this season. The sixth-round pick from the 2021 amateur draft previously went 7-13 with a 4.53 ERA in 28 starts and one relief appearance during his rookie season.
In a roster move to accommodate Arrighetti, the Astros optioned right-hander AJ Blubaugh to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Additionally, there are updates on Cristian Javier, who underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2024. He threw 77 pitches during a rehab start on Tuesday and could rejoin the Astros’ rotation as early as next week, according to manager Joe Espada.
With Arrighetti back in the rotation, the Astros look to strengthen their pitching lineup as they face the Marlins in this crucial matchup. Fans and teammates alike are anticipating his impactful return to the field.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as the Astros aim for a successful season.
