UPDATE: Major changes have been confirmed for the highly anticipated Scream 7, shifting the franchise’s direction significantly. In a shocking revelation, Skeet Ulrich, who played the iconic killer Billy Loomis, disclosed that the original storyline intended for his daughter to embrace the Ghostface mantle.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ulrich explained that the sequel was originally meant to conclude a trilogy initiated with the 2022 installment, Scream 5. The plan was to gradually transform his character’s daughter, Sam Carpenter, portrayed by Melissa Barrera, into the notorious Ghostface killer. “When we talked about coming back for 5, it was a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis to slowly turn his daughter into the killer,” Ulrich stated. However, he confirmed, “those things didn’t pan out.”
The original vision for Scream 7 was not only rooted in nostalgia but also aimed to create a new chapter in horror, culminating in a dramatic twist. As Ulrich pointed out, the film would have seen his character return in ghost form to mentor Sam in her transformation. However, scheduling conflicts and behind-the-scenes controversies led to significant changes, resulting in the departure of directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, along with stars Barrera and Jenna Ortega.
Now under the direction of Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026. Fans are eager to see how the film will evolve without the original storyline.
This revelation not only impacts fans of the franchise but also raises questions about the future of the beloved horror series. The drastic shift in narrative direction highlights the challenges filmmakers face in balancing creative visions with practical realities.
As anticipation builds for the release of Scream 7, audiences are left wondering what the final product will deliver. Will it maintain the franchise’s signature thrills, or will it chart a new course entirely? Keep an eye out for updates as more information becomes available.
