Philadelphia Man Sentenced to 3-6 Years for Cellphone Robbery

UPDATE: A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 3 to 6 years in prison for the robbery of a cellphone from a victim on his front porch in Norristown. Naquin Namir Mitchell, 24, was sentenced by Montgomery County Court after pleading guilty to felony robbery, following a June 11, 2025, incident that shocked the local community.

This urgent case highlights the dangers of everyday life as incidents of robbery continue to rise. As part of a plea agreement, Judge William R. Carpenter ordered Mitchell to serve his time in a state correctional facility and complete a year of probation following his release, resulting in a total of seven years under court supervision.

The robbery occurred around 8:17 a.m. when police were dispatched to a residence on the 600 block of Haws Avenue. The victim reported that as he sat on his porch, Mitchell approached him and demanded he “run his pockets.” Witnesses reported that Mitchell’s movements suggested he may have been armed, causing the victim to fear for his safety.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Norristown Detective Joshua Samuels, this fear compelled the victim to surrender his Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra to Mitchell, who then fled the scene on foot.

Authorities launched an immediate investigation and tracked the stolen phone to the corner of Haws Avenue and Marshall Street before locating it near Haws Avenue and Blackberry Alley. Later that day, police apprehended Mitchell, who confessed to the crime and admitted to discarding the phone near the intersection of Stanbridge and Main streets.

As a result of the plea deal, other charges against Mitchell, including theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and terroristic threats, were dismissed. The victim’s traumatic experience emphasizes the urgent need for community safety measures.

This developing story raises questions about crime rates in urban areas and the impact on residents. Authorities encourage community vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities to enhance public safety.

As this situation unfolds, the community remains on alert, reflecting on the implications of such violent encounters in daily life. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available regarding local crime trends and safety initiatives.
