UPDATE: UFC lightweight star Paddy Pimblett was “knocked out” in a playful boxing exhibition that turned into a memorable moment for a local amateur boxer, George Goetzee, in Liverpool, England. The event, held by No Limits Boxing Club, took place earlier today, showcasing a heartwarming interaction between the fighters while Pimblett prepares for his upcoming interim lightweight title fight against Justin Gaethje on January 24, 2024.
In a captivating display of sportsmanship, Pimblett, who holds a professional record of 23-3-0, took time out of his training camp to step into the ring with Goetzee, a boxer with Down syndrome. Goetzee, affectionately nicknamed “The Real GGG” in homage to boxing legend Gennady Golovkin, landed a well-placed right hand, sending Pimblett to the canvas. The referee promptly halted the bout, declaring Goetzee the winner by knockout.
“The referee calls a halt to this contest with the red corner [Pimblett] in no condition to continue, and therefore your winner by KO, and still undefeated: The Real GGG!” the ring announcer declared, as the crowd erupted in cheers.
After the fight, Pimblett celebrated Goetzee’s victory by lifting him onto his shoulders, symbolizing the uplifting spirit of the event. Known for his dedication to community efforts in Liverpool, Pimblett’s involvement in this exhibition highlights his commitment to making a positive impact beyond the octagon.
This boxing exhibition not only fulfilled Goetzee’s dream of facing a UFC fighter but also brought the local community together, showcasing the power of sports to inspire and uplift. As Pimblett gears up for his pivotal fight against Gaethje, fans are reminded of his roots and community involvement.
