A new padel tennis facility has been approved in Bottesford, aimed at meeting the growing demand for the sport. Recently granted by Melton Borough Council, the development will take place at Barbrey Business Park on Orston Lane. This facility is designed to provide players in the Grantham area and the wider Vale of Belvoir with a much-needed local option, reducing the need to travel to venues located in Newark or Nottingham.
The approved project will feature three covered courts, a reception area, a coffee shop, and additional supporting facilities. The planning application, submitted by GraceMachin Planning and Property on behalf of the Norris family, received substantial community backing, underlining the demand for enhanced sporting facilities in the area. A total of 35 letters of support were submitted by local residents, expressing enthusiasm for the development.
Community members highlighted that the new courts would serve players of all ages, contributing to both physical and mental well-being. One resident noted the inconvenience faced by villagers who currently travel outside Bottesford for padel tennis.
Nick Grace, a partner at GraceMachin Planning and Property, commented on the significance of the approval, stating, “This approval is a great success for the community and fills a clear gap in the padel market around Grantham and the Vale of Belvoir.” He emphasized the strong local support that showcased the facility’s potential value to the residents.
The proposal faced challenges during the planning phase, particularly regarding the introduction of a leisure facility on land designated for employment purposes. Concerns regarding access, highway safety, drainage, and biodiversity net gain were raised. The planning consultancy collaborated with various stakeholders to address these issues, ultimately leading to a recommendation for approval.
According to Andy Smith, speaking on behalf of the Norris family, development is set to commence once the Biodiversity Gain Plan receives approval. Smith expressed optimism, stating, “We are hopeful that by the end of the summer we will be playing padel in Bottesford.”
As the project moves forward, the local community eagerly anticipates the opening of the new padel tennis centre, which promises to enhance the sporting landscape in Bottesford and provide a valuable recreational option for all residents.
