Missing in Kerr County Floods Plummets from 100 to 3

UPDATE: The number of individuals reported missing in the devastating Kerr County floods has plummeted from nearly 100 to just 3, according to officials. This significant drop follows intensive efforts by local and state agencies to verify the status of those unaccounted for since the catastrophic flooding earlier this month.

In a statement released on Saturday, Kerr County officials confirmed that extensive follow-up work led to the verification of many individuals initially listed as missing. Earlier this week, authorities had reported 97 people still unaccounted for in the area after the deadly floods that struck on July 4. At one point, more than 160 individuals were believed to be missing.

Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice expressed profound gratitude to the more than 1,000 local, state, and federal responders who have tirelessly worked in the aftermath of this disaster. “Thanks to their extraordinary efforts, the number of individuals previously listed as missing has dropped from over 160 to 3,” Rice stated.

The overall death toll from the July 4 floods across Texas has reached 134, with 107 fatalities reported in Kerr County alone, including 70 adults and 37 children. As recovery efforts continue, officials emphasize the importance of community support and safety measures in the wake of such tragedies.

As recovery operations progress, authorities remain vigilant. The focus is now on ensuring that the remaining missing individuals are located and that the affected communities receive the assistance they need to rebuild.

Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops.
