UPDATE: The notorious illegal sports streaming network, Streameast, has been shut down following a staggering 1.6 billion visits in the past year, authorities confirm. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) announced the urgent action on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, in collaboration with Egyptian authorities.
This shutdown marks a significant blow to the world’s largest illicit live sports streaming operation, which boasted 80 associated domains. Charles Rivkin, ACE chairman, declared this a “resounding victory” in the ongoing battle against digital piracy. He emphasized the importance of this action, stating, “Today, ACE scored a resounding victory in its fight to detect, deter, and dismantle criminal perpetrators of digital piracy.”
Streameast provided unauthorized access to high-profile matches across Europe’s top soccer leagues and other major sports such as the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL. The rise of soccer piracy has surged over the past 20 years, as leagues increasingly sell their matches through high-priced pay-per-view and streaming services, often requiring fans to juggle multiple subscriptions.
“This criminal operation was siphoning value from sports at every level and putting fans across the world at risk,” said Ed McCarthy, chief operating officer of the DAZN streaming group. He praised the efforts of ACE and Egyptian authorities, highlighting the broader implications for the sports ecosystem.
Traffic to Streameast’s domains predominantly originated from the United States, Canada, Britain, Philippines, and Germany. Now, all Streameast sites have been redirected to the ACE “Watch Legally” page, urging users to access content through authorized channels.
This landmark action not only dismantles a major player in the illegal streaming industry but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against digital piracy. Sports leagues, entertainment companies, and fans worldwide may benefit from this victory, as it upholds the integrity and value of live sports.
With the sports streaming landscape constantly evolving, this critical shutdown sends a strong message to other piracy operations. Stakeholders in the sports industry are now watching closely for further developments in the fight against illegal streaming.
Stay tuned for more updates as authorities continue to tackle digital piracy and protect the rights of content creators and fans alike.
