BREAKING: A tragic helicopter collision in Hammonton, New Jersey has resulted in the death of one person and left another critically injured. The midair disaster occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. on Sunday, drawing immediate attention from emergency responders.
Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel confirmed that rescuers rushed to the scene to assist those affected. Eyewitness video circulating on social media shows dramatic plumes of smoke rising after the helicopters crash-landed, with one aircraft reportedly engulfed in flames.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the collision involved two helicopters: an Enstrom F-28A and an Enstrom 280C. Both aircraft were occupied solely by their pilots. Tragically, one pilot did not survive, while the other is currently hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The FAA has stated that they, along with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. This incident marks a concerning trend, as it follows two other significant helicopter accidents this year. In January, a collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and a passenger plane over Washington, D.C. resulted in the deaths of 67 people. Later in April, a helicopter crash into the Hudson River in New York claimed the lives of five tourists and a pilot.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities will provide updates on the conditions of the injured pilot and the ongoing inquiry into the causes of this horrific event. The community of Hammonton, along with aviation enthusiasts nationwide, will be watching closely as more details emerge.
