Former Consultant Claims Corruption Probe Was a ‘Sham’ Amid Murder Case

URGENT UPDATE: In a shocking revelation, former campaign consultant Sean Caddle, currently serving a 24-year sentence for murder-for-hire, has claimed that the federal investigation into his political corruption activities was a complete “sham.” Caddle’s statements raise serious questions about why the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark failed to pursue further charges linked to his extensive pay-to-play scheme.

Caddle, 47, spoke out during a series of prison interviews after spending nearly two years cooperating with federal prosecutors following his 2022 guilty plea for orchestrating the murder of Michael Galdieri in Jersey City in 2014. Galdieri, a friend and the son of a former state senator, was killed in his apartment, marking a dark chapter in Caddle’s career, which included working on numerous political campaigns across New Jersey.

“This was all a sham,” Caddle asserted. “I was never questioned about what I was doing wrong with those groups.” Despite his cooperation, which included signing an agreement to provide details on political corruption, Caddle expressed frustration that federal investigators did not follow up on crucial information he claimed to possess.

Initially, Caddle’s cooperation was viewed favorably by prosecutors, who recommended a lighter sentence based on his assistance. However, the investigation yielded no actionable results, leading to a longer sentence than anticipated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lee Cortes had noted the cooperation but admitted that the information provided was “not actionable.”

Caddle maintained that he had evidence of dark-money funding and corruption involving influential political figures, but he was never probed further. “While they stated they had tremendous interest, the reality was they didn’t even peel a page back on it,” he lamented.

The investigation’s lack of progress has sparked outrage, as many anticipated Caddle’s cooperation would expose a major corruption scandal. A recorded conversation between Caddle and his attorney revealed his disappointment that investigators only inquired about a limited number of individuals, notably Antonio Teixeira, former chief of staff to state Senate President Nicholas Scutari. Teixeira has since pleaded guilty to theft and fraud.

Caddle expressed concern that his cooperation would harm his associates. In a haunting exchange, Teixeira suggested that Caddle should prioritize his family’s safety, indicating he had the backing of powerful allies. “How are you going to be all right?” Caddle questioned, reflecting on the chilling implications of that conversation.

Legal experts note that it’s not uncommon for investigations to stall despite the cooperation of witnesses. Peter Katz, a former federal prosecutor, explained that the lack of charges could stem from various factors, including insufficient evidence or strategic focus by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Caddle’s frustration continues to grow as he reflects on the two years he spent awaiting further inquiry. “When it turned into a nothing burger, you’re shaking your head going, ‘What happened here?’” he stated, emphasizing the disconnect between public expectations and the reality of the investigation.

As the fallout from Caddle’s statements reverberates through New Jersey’s political landscape, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has yet to comment on his claims. The implications of this investigation could have far-reaching consequences, raising questions about the integrity of political funding and the effectiveness of federal oversight.

As developments unfold, Caddle’s allegations may reignite scrutiny on political corruption in New Jersey and beyond. The public awaits further clarification on why this significant investigation failed to yield any charges despite Caddle’s cooperation. Stay tuned for updates as this story continues to develop.
