Eggs are a powerful source of lutein and zeaxanthin. These antioxidants are crucial for defending the eyes against harmful light exposure. Manaker explains that the fat content in egg yolks aids in the absorption of these fat-soluble nutrients.

Pistachios: A Nutritious Snack

Another eye-friendly option is pistachios. Research published in The Journal of Nutrition found that adults who consumed 2 ounces of pistachios daily for 12 weeks showed improvements in macular pigment optical density, a marker associated with eye protection.

Manaker notes that pistachios are a natural source of lutein, which, along with zeaxanthin, is vital for forming the protective macular pigment in the retina. Including pistachios as a snack or in meals is an easy way to enhance eye health.

Sweet Potatoes: Vision Support

Sweet potatoes are another excellent food choice for maintaining good vision. Their high beta-carotene content, a precursor to vitamin A, plays a crucial role in producing vitamin A in the body. Manaker emphasizes that sweet potatoes are essential for improving night vision and reducing the risk of dry eyes.
