Antioch Revamps Three Parks with $2.95M Grant Funding

BREAKING: Three parks in Antioch are undergoing significant renovations aimed at enriching community life and revitalizing aging facilities. The city is set to unveil improvements at the Contra Loma Estates Park, Marchetti Park, and Jacobsen Park, all funded by a total of $2.95 million from Proposition 68, a statewide parks and water bond.

The renovations at Contra Loma Estates Park, located at the intersection of Mahogany Way and Manzanita Drive, are nearing completion. The upgrades include a new dog park, restrooms, an outdoor gym, shaded picnic areas, a walking and jogging path, and enhancements to the existing basketball court with new lighting and fencing. Antioch Public Works Director Scott Buenting stated, “It’s going to be a really nice amenity for the city, especially for that location,” highlighting the new climbing wall and additional seating designed to attract more visitors.

The city is also focusing on Marchetti Park on Delta Fair Boulevard, with renovations projected to cost around $1.5 million. These upgrades will replace outdated playground equipment and improve restroom facilities, as well as rehabilitate existing sports fields and courts. The city received approximately $178,000 from Prop 68 funds for these enhancements.

Meanwhile, Jacobsen Park will see a revamp of its basketball court, improvements to the shade structure, and the installation of new playground equipment. The upgrades will also address irrigation needs and concrete work.

Deputy Public Works Director Carlos Zepeda emphasized the city’s commitment to park safety, stating, “We have an inspector who goes out daily to verify the work that the maintenance contractor is doing.” Regular inspections ensure that parks remain safe and welcoming for the community.

Despite these efforts, the city faces challenges with vandalism, which costs thousands of dollars in repairs. Buenting remarked, “Without vandalism, our parks would be in good shape,” stressing the importance of community involvement in maintaining park integrity.

These developments are crucial for enhancing the quality of life in Antioch, a city known for its extensive park system. Buenting noted, “I look at our parks as a huge benefit to the city,” reflecting the positive impact these enhancements will have on residents.

The grand opening for Contra Loma Estates Park will be scheduled shortly, marking a significant milestone in Antioch’s ongoing efforts to improve public spaces. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for updates on the opening and further park developments as the city prioritizes community engagement and recreational opportunities.
