Atlassian, a leading IT collaboration software vendor, has acquired Secoda, a Toronto-based startup specializing in data cataloging, for an undisclosed amount. This acquisition aims to enhance Atlassian’s capabilities in unifying organizational data and improving accessibility for users across various technical backgrounds.
Founded in 2021, Secoda offers a platform that connects to diverse data sources, including databases, warehouses, and visualization tools, enabling a comprehensive overview of company data. The startup recently raised $14 million in a Series A funding round led by Craft Ventures in September 2023, highlighting its rapid growth and potential in the data management sector.
Integration with Rovo AI Platform
Secoda’s data discovery and search functionalities will be integrated into Atlassian’s Rovo, an AI-powered platform designed to unify data from both Atlassian and third-party SaaS applications. In a statement, co-founder Etai Mizrahi emphasized that joining Atlassian aligns with Secoda’s mission to facilitate effortless access to knowledge for enterprise teams. He noted, “There is an incredibly high overlap between the teams we serve and the teams that run on Atlassian.”
Atlassian’s Rovo platform supports organizations by providing an AI-driven System of Work that enhances productivity. The company reports that its solutions are currently utilized by more than 300,000 customers worldwide, including prominent organizations such as NASA, Rivian, Deutsche Bank, United Airlines, and Bosch.
Expanding Atlassian’s Product Suite
The acquisition of Secoda marks a significant step in Atlassian’s strategy to expand its product offerings. Following recent acquisitions of intelligence specialist DX and The Browser Company, this move underscores Atlassian’s commitment to enhancing its capabilities in data management and analysis.
According to Tiffany To, Executive Vice President of Platform and Enterprise at Atlassian, “Secoda’s expertise in dynamically learning, organizing, and understanding structured data, paired with their AI-driven semantic cataloging, will strengthen Rovo’s ability to deliver precise, context-rich insights.” She expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Secoda’s team to Atlassian, stating that the integration will accelerate AI innovation within their System of Work.
Secoda has assured its existing customers that their experience with the product will remain unchanged during the integration process. Mizrahi confirmed that the team will prioritize continuity, stating, “As we integrate, we will migrate parts of our infrastructure and ensure your team is fully supported while we transition to Atlassian’s Cloud Platform.” Clear technical plans and timelines will be communicated in advance to prevent disruptions for users.
This acquisition positions Atlassian to better support businesses facing the challenges of managing complex, enterprise-scale data, empowering employees to find answers and take action directly within their workflows. As companies continue to navigate the intricacies of data management, the collaboration between Atlassian and Secoda aims to simplify access and enhance productivity for teams around the globe.
