Parker Lady Bulls Maintain Unbeaten Streak in Volleyball Season

The Parker High School Lady Bulls have achieved an impressive start to the 2025 BIIF girls volleyball regular season, maintaining an unbeaten record of 7-0. The team has not lost a single set, showcasing their dominance with notable victories, including two decisive wins against Konawaena. Their ability to limit opponents to 10 points or fewer in nine sets reflects their exceptional skill and teamwork.

Head coach Sharon Peterson, a respected figure in Big Island volleyball, attributes the team’s success to a blend of talent, strategy, and unity. “We have a great combination of talent, design, knowledge, and team togetherness,” she stated during a recent practice at the school’s new SMART Center gymnasium.

The leadership of senior captains Takarrah Presley, Sophia Scholz, and Adalyn Ballard has been pivotal in fostering a positive team environment. Presley emphasizes the importance of communication and a shared mindset, stating, “We’ve been really trying to work on positive thoughts and keeping each other accountable this season.” This focus on collaboration is essential for ensuring success throughout the season.

Parker High School, with an enrollment of under 350 students, fosters a close-knit community, which enhances team chemistry. Many players have been friends for years, building strong relationships that translate onto the court. Alongside the captains, players such as senior Mailhana Jara-Hess, juniors Siena Long and Kenzie Pajinag, and sophomores Basil Au, Madi Kinkadem, Breezley Montez, Rachel Shotwell, and Poppy Breen contribute to the team’s collective strength.

The camaraderie extends beyond practices. “We see each other every single day, and we hang out after school,” Ballard shared. Scholz added that playing alongside familiar teammates from the previous year enhances the enjoyment of the game. Last season, Parker finished with an impressive overall record of 18-5, securing second place in BIIF Division II and qualifying for the state tournament for the first time since record-keeping began in the late 2000s.

With aspirations for greater achievements this season, Peterson highlights the importance of senior leadership and the players’ volleyball intelligence. “(Ballard) is a great voice on the court, and (Scholz) and (Presley) have great demeanor — they don’t get down,” she noted. Peterson also stressed the need for the team to develop better habits and maintain control during matches.

The Lady Bulls have adopted a relaxed approach this season, aiming to enter each match with a balanced mindset. “Coach Sharon tells us to keep our expectations low but our standards high,” Scholz explained. This philosophy encourages players to focus on enjoying the game while striving for excellence.

Staying disciplined and emphasizing the fundamentals, such as effective communication and defensive techniques, remains crucial for the team’s continued success. “We have everything we need to succeed this season,” Scholz affirmed.

As the Lady Bulls look to sustain their perfect season, they will face Honoka‘a at home on Tuesday. Peterson hopes that regardless of the season’s outcome, the girls will cherish the experiences and growth they share as a team. “If they stay connected, have spirit, and are there for each other, then that would be a really successful season,” she remarked.

The community eagerly anticipates the remainder of the season, as Parker aims to build on its remarkable start and continue its quest for a BIIF title.
