New York Jets Sign Khalil Herbert After Braelon Allen Injured

The New York Jets have signed running back Khalil Herbert following a significant knee injury to key player Braelon Allen. Allen sustained a sprained MCL during the team’s recent game against the Miami Dolphins and has been placed on the injured reserve list. This injury contributes to the Jets’ struggles, as they are currently winless in the 2025 NFL season.

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Allen’s injury will likely keep him sidelined for more than four weeks. He tweeted, “Jets RB Braelon Allen, who was ruled out last night with a knee injury, suffered an MCL sprain that will likely land him on Injured Reserve, sources say.” Allen will seek additional opinions regarding his condition.

The Jets selected Allen, who is now 21 years old, in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He made a notable impact during his time on the field, recording three rushing touchdowns and one receiving score. His youth and potential had made him a promising player for the team.

In response to Allen’s injury, the Jets have turned to veteran Khalil Herbert. Herbert, now in his fifth NFL season, was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2021. He was selected 217th overall from Virginia Tech and spent three seasons with the Bears. In 2024, Herbert was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played until the end of that season. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts before being released in August 2025 as part of the final roster cuts.

The Jets have had a challenging start to the season, currently holding an 0-4 record. Their losses included a narrow defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdown passes, highlighting the team’s ongoing difficulties. Subsequent games saw the Jets fall to the Buffalo Bills and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, culminating in a close 27-21 loss to the Dolphins last weekend.

Looking ahead, the Jets will host the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday before traveling to face the Denver Broncos the following week. The team is eager to turn around its fortunes and secure its first victory of the season, especially with new personnel changes in play.

As the Jets navigate these early-season challenges, they remain committed to strengthening their roster and finding ways to compete effectively in the league.
