Chris Coyne Revives Professional Boxing at Mohegan Pennsylvania

Promoter Chris Coyne is set to re-enter the boxing scene after a six-year hiatus with the announcement of a professional boxing card titled Mohegan Fall Brawl. The event will take place on November 8, 2023, at Mohegan Pennsylvania and will feature a total of 12 bouts. Coyne, head of Northeast Boxing, revealed that he was persuaded to return by Ed Kunkle, the executive director of the state athletic commission, who emphasized the need for professional boxing events in the region.

“I really had no intentions of getting back into boxing,” Coyne said. “This is a favor. Will it blossom into something else? Possibly.” His decision was influenced by the historical connection between boxing and casino venues, particularly in locations such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Coyne noted that the caliber of fighters he aims to showcase necessitates a venue of this kind. “This is the biggest boxing show that I have personally done in 15 years. This is an HBO or Showtime quality show,” he added.

The main event will feature Kurt Scoby, a super lightweight from Duarte, California, who now resides in Spring Brook Township. Scoby boasts an impressive record of 18 wins, including 16 knockouts, and is eager to perform at home. “I’m more than ready,” he stated. “I’ve been a road warrior for some time now.” Previously trained at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, he now trains in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he benefits from a secluded environment and the opportunity to train alongside world-class fighters.

Co-Main Event and Local Talent

The co-main event will spotlight Ryan Wilczak, a native of Scranton, who is looking to rebound after suffering two losses following an undefeated start to his professional career. Coyne described this fight as a crucial opportunity for Wilczak to regain momentum and secure another high-profile match. “This is a stepping stone for him to go out and get another fight and get on another nice pay-per-view event,” Coyne explained.

Wilczak recently competed on the undercard of the Claressa ShieldsLani Daniels heavyweight title fight in Detroit and has also fought in Orlando and South America since his last local appearance. “The goal is to get back there. Las Vegas, Madison Square Garden: that’s the goal. This fight is pivotal,” he said. This upcoming bout marks Wilczak’s first fight in his hometown in six years, and he expressed a strong desire to take full advantage of this opportunity. “I don’t want to be in 10 years saying I wish I did more or took that opportunity,” Wilczak added.

Several local fighters will join Scoby and Wilczak on the card, including Rocco Cordaro from Dunmore, Anthony Muta from Newfoundland, Nelson Morales from Scranton, and Jesse Oltmanns Jr. from Stroudsburg. Additionally, Shakeem Williams, who trains in Easton, Cian Duggan from Dublin, Ireland, and Thomas Blumenfeld from Fleurimont, Quebec, are also scheduled to compete.

Event Details and Ticket Information

Coyne expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Mohegan Pennsylvania, stating, “Mohegan has been wonderful to work with. Everything I requested, they came through with.” The promoter emphasized his intention to deliver a thrilling show that leaves audiences impressed.

The Mohegan Fall Brawl is set to begin at 7 p.m. on November 8. Tickets for the event are priced between $60 and $120 and can be purchased at local venues such as Dunmore Lumber and Dooley’s Pub & Eatery. As Coyne prepares to return to the boxing world, anticipation builds for what promises to be a memorable evening of professional boxing at Mohegan Pennsylvania.
