Cam Lund Injured in High Hit Ahead of Sharks Training Camp

San Jose Sharks forward Cam Lund may miss the start of training camp next week due to an upper-body injury sustained during a game against the Anaheim Ducks. The incident occurred on September 13, 2025, at the Golden State Rookie Faceoff in Irvine, California, when Lund was hit high by Ducks defenseman Will Francis while attempting to receive a pass from Filip Bystedt.

The hit left Lund on the ice, as he did not yet have possession of the puck. Following the incident, the Sharks announced that he is considered day-to-day. Training camp for the Sharks begins on September 21.

A Game Filled with Fights

After the hit on Lund, Sharks defenseman Braden Hache, who played for both the Barracuda of the AHL and the Wichita of the ECHL last season, stepped in to confront Francis. Their fight was one of five recorded during the match, which saw a total of 76 penalty minutes assessed between the two teams.

Before his injury, Lund, aged 21, had scored two goals, contributing to the Sharks’ 6-3 victory over the Ducks. His absence was felt in a subsequent game against the Los Angeles Kings, where the Sharks struggled early, trailing 4-0 by the 15:04 mark of the first period.

Lund’s Career Progression

Lund was selected by the Sharks in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft. After a successful three-year college career at Northeastern, he signed an entry-level contract and turned professional in March 2025. Last season, he appeared in 11 games with the Sharks, tallying two goals and one assist.

In the game against the Kings, the Sharks had to adjust their lineup, dressing 11 forwards and seven defensemen due to Lund’s absence. Despite a challenging start, the Sharks rallied in the second period, with goals from Kasper Halttunen, Filip Bystedt, and Sam Dickinson, narrowing the Kings’ lead.

Looking ahead, the Sharks will return to San Jose to prepare for their main training camp. Their first preseason game is scheduled for September 24 at home against the Vegas Golden Knights. Lund is among several recent draft picks vying for a spot on the roster as the regular season approaches.

In Friday’s victory over the Ducks, six Sharks players recorded two points, showcasing the depth of the team. Notable performances included contributions from Quentin Musty, Luca Cagnoni, and Collin Graf, each registering a goal and an assist. Additionally, Michael Misa, the second overall pick in the recent draft, added an assist, while goaltender Josh Ravensbergen saved 16 of 19 shots.

The Sharks will look to build momentum as they enter the training camp, though Lund’s status will be closely monitored as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
