Wisconsin Woman Injures Eleven in Bus Crash While on Bond

A 20-year-old woman in Racine, Wisconsin, is facing serious charges after a car crash involving a city bus that injured eleven people. The incident occurred while the woman, identified as Shamya Anderson, was out on a $50,000 signature bond for a previous hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of Dwayne Carr, a 44-year-old pedestrian.

The recent crash took place near the intersection of 16th and Murray on January 24, 2024. According to the Racine County prosecutors, Anderson was driving an SUV with three children inside when she lost control and collided with the bus. Surveillance footage captured her vehicle driving recklessly at a high speed just before the accident. The footage showed her swerving through traffic before sideswiping another vehicle and ultimately colliding with the bus.

Most of the individuals injured in the crash were high school students, raising significant concerns about road safety in the area. Witness accounts and police reports indicate that Anderson was driving without a valid license, violating the conditions of her bond.

Anderson was initially charged for the hit-and-run of Dwayne Carr late in January, months after the incident. Following her arrest, she was released under bond conditions that prohibited her from driving. Despite these restrictions, she managed to get behind the wheel again, leading to the injuries of multiple individuals.

“Time has stood still since my brother was hit by a car and left for dead,”

said Tamara Carr, Dwayne Carr’s sister. She expressed her grief and desire for justice, highlighting the emotional toll the incidents have taken on her family.

After the recent crash, Anderson is now being held on a $500,000 bond, though the possibility of her being released remains. Legal experts and community members are calling for increased accountability among judges and prosecutors who allow repeat offenders to remain free under lenient conditions. The situation has sparked a broader discussion about judicial practices in Wisconsin, particularly regarding cases involving serious traffic violations.

Community leaders are urging lawmakers to take action to ensure stricter enforcement of bond conditions. As Racine grapples with these incidents, the public remains concerned about road safety and the judicial system’s ability to protect citizens from dangerous drivers.

As the investigation continues, many are left wondering what steps will be taken to address these issues and prevent further tragedies on local roads.
