Filomena Califano Piccirillo, aged 85, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, in Schenectady, New York. A native of San Giovanni e Paolo, Italy, she made a significant impact on her community after relocating to the United States in 1965.
Born into a loving family, Filomena married her late husband, Guido Piccirillo, in 1963. The couple, who shared a strong bond, raised three children together and built a life filled with love and dedication. Following Guido’s passing in 2003, Filomena continued to embrace her family and community, demonstrating resilience and compassion.
Career and Community Involvement
Filomena was well-known for her contributions to local institutions. She worked at Union College for several years before taking a position at the dental practice of Dr. DeLuke. Her dedication to her work and her caring nature endeared her to colleagues and clients alike.
As a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Schenectady, Filomena actively participated in community events and religious activities. She took great pleasure in her hobbies, which included cultivating a vegetable garden, showcasing her cherished geraniums, and cooking for family gatherings. Her love for her grandchildren was evident, as she cherished every moment spent with them.
Filomena is survived by her beloved children: Nicola “Nick” Piccirillo of Scotia, Lucia Ingriselli of Maple, Ontario, Canada, and John Piccirillo of Schenectady. She was also a proud grandmother to numerous grandchildren, including Christina, Julianna, and Annamarie Piccirillo, as well as Amanda, Sara, and Laura Ingriselli.
Final Farewell and Legacy
Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects during calling hours on December 14, from 15:00 to 17:00 at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, located at 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on December 15 at 10:00 at St. Anthony’s Church, with entombment following at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to organizations that supported Filomena during her battle with Alzheimer’s.
