Patricia A. Hanna, affectionately known as Pat, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the age of 74. Her departure has left a profound void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless students whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable career. Born on June 16, 1951, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Pat was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Annabelle Mae (Reichelderfer) Horvath.
Pat’s dedication to education began early in her life. A proud graduate of Dieruff High School, class of 1969, she furthered her studies at Moravian University, graduating in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Her passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling career with the Bethlehem Area School District, where she inspired countless young minds at Fountain Hill Elementary School.
Beyond her role as an educator, Pat was a fervent advocate for literacy. Her home was a sanctuary of books, boasting a personal library filled with a diverse range of literature. This passion translated into her ownership of the former Barclay Booksellers in Emmaus, which became a cherished spot for book enthusiasts. She also contributed her knowledge and warmth at the iconic Moravian Book Store on Main Street in Bethlehem, where her presence was felt by all who entered.
Pat’s career also included a significant stint as the Bridal Registrar at Hess’s Department Store, where her genuine spirit resonated with customers. Her vibrant personality extended to her diverse interests and hobbies. A devoted fan of Tom Jones, Pat frequently attended his concerts, showcasing her love for music. Crafting was another passion; she delighted in creating needlepoint, cross-stitch, and knitted treasures for friends and family.
At home, Pat took pride in her Craftsman Bungalow and its surrounding garden, nurturing both with the same dedication she showed to her students. An animal lover, she was an advocate for animal welfare, and her home was filled with the love of her pets, including her beloved dogs Hansel, Bonnie, and Gretel. Travel enriched her life, particularly her visits to Cape Cod and Virginia, where she spent time with her cherished horse, Hansel.
Pat’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allentown, her absence will be deeply felt by her church family. Above all, Pat’s heart belonged to her husband, Tony Hanna, with whom she shared over 52 years of marriage. Their partnership, built on deep love and mutual respect, was a testament to enduring commitment and joy. Tony provided unwavering support, and their bond will continue to be a source of comfort.
In addition to her husband, Pat leaves behind a loving extended family and many dear friends, all of whom were touched by her warmth and generosity. Her stories and experiences, shared even during her health challenges, left a lasting impact on those around her.
