Boone Jenner Introduces ‘Boone’s Buddies’ to Support Local Families

Boone Jenner, captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets, has launched an initiative called “Boone’s Buddies,” designed to assist children and families in central Ohio who are dealing with medical challenges. In partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Central Ohio, the program aims to host families at 20 home games during the 2023-2024 NHL season, offering them a chance to enjoy a night of respite and community.

During each of these games, participating families will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of live hockey while momentarily setting aside their challenges. “These kids and their families are going through so much,” Jenner stated. “I wanted to give them a night where they could just be together, enjoy the game, and feel like a family without the weight of everything else.”

The collaboration with RMHC underscores the significant role that athletes can play in their communities, particularly during tough circumstances. Dee Anders, Executive Director and CEO of RMHC of Central Ohio, expressed appreciation for Jenner’s efforts, highlighting the positive impact that such initiatives can have on families navigating difficult times. “It means the world to these families to have support and moments of joy,” Anders commented.

The Blue Jackets organization has a history of community involvement, and “Boone’s Buddies” is poised to enhance that legacy. This initiative not only reflects Jenner’s commitment to philanthropy but also encourages other athletes to engage with their communities in meaningful ways.

As the season progresses, the initiative promises to create lasting memories for the families involved, fostering a sense of togetherness and hope amidst their struggles. By providing these experiences, Jenner and the Blue Jackets aim to remind families that they are not alone in their journeys.

The first game under the “Boone’s Buddies” program is set to take place in the coming weeks, as the Blue Jackets continue their efforts both on and off the ice. This initiative offers a powerful reminder of the impact that compassion can have within sports, uniting players and fans alike in support of those in need.
