Filming for the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been temporarily halted after actor Tom Holland sustained a mild concussion on set. The incident occurred on September 19, 2023, while filming in Glasgow, prompting production to pause for a few days as a precautionary measure.
Sources close to the production confirmed the decision to suspend filming, emphasizing that no other cast or crew members were affected by the incident. Holland’s representative has not commented on the situation, but it is anticipated that he will be back on set shortly. In the meantime, production teams are convening to adjust filming schedules accordingly.
Reports indicate that the concussion resulted from a stunt mishap. Following the incident, Holland was taken to a hospital for treatment. He later made an appearance at a charity event over the weekend alongside his fiancée, Zendaya. During the event, Holland’s father, Dominic Holland, informed reporters that his son would be away from the set for an unspecified period.
Production Details and Future Plans
Holland had expressed enthusiasm about returning to practical location shooting for this new installment in the Spider-Man franchise. He noted the excitement of filming in real locations, particularly in Glasgow, where the production aims to create a significant set piece. Holland stated, “It’s going to feel like making [2017’s] Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”
Despite the setback, the release date for Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains set for July 31, 2026. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. In addition to Holland, Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, alongside new cast members Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas.
The production team is optimistic that the filming delay will only last a few days, allowing the film to stay on schedule for its anticipated release.
