Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins has recently expanded its streaming availability, now accessible on Hulu. The film, featuring Henry Golding in the lead role, has already been available on Netflix since October 2022 and on Paramount+ since September 2021, approximately 45 days post-theatrical release. The addition to Hulu marks the third streaming platform for this installment, which currently holds a low 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Franchise Performance and Future Plans
Prior to Snake Eyes, the franchise included two other live-action films: G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013). The inaugural film received a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but performed well at the box office, grossing $302.46 million with a budget of $175 million. It featured a star-studded cast, including Christopher Eccleston and Channing Tatum.
Retaliation fared slightly better with critics, earning a 29% rating, while its global box office earnings reached $375.7 million, produced on a smaller budget of $130 million. This film also boasted a notable cast, including Dwayne Johnson and Elodie Yung.
Despite the mixed reception of the previous films, plans for the franchise continue. The recent Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hinted at a potential crossover with G.I. Joe, generating interest among fans. Although it achieved a moderate box office success with $441.65 million, the studios are keen to capitalize on this momentum.
Looking Ahead
While it remains uncertain if Golding will reprise his role in the anticipated crossover project, he has expressed interest in doing so. Currently, Paramount and Hasbro have not yet confirmed a director for the crossover film, which is expected to be penned by Derek Connolly. The only confirmed cast member at this time is Chris Hemsworth, adding to the excitement surrounding future developments.
