Dylan Efron has publicly defended actress Ashley Tisdale in light of recent controversy involving a “toxic” mom group. Tisdale, who starred alongside Efron’s brother, Zac Efron, in the iconic film “High School Musical” (2006), has been in the spotlight after sharing a personal essay detailing her decision to distance herself from a group of friends characterized by “mean girl” behavior. This group reportedly includes well-known figures such as Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor.
During an episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” on March 6, 2024, Dylan Efron, 33, responded to questions regarding the fallout from Tisdale’s essay. Although he admitted to not being fully aware of the situation, he firmly stated that Tisdale could not be blamed for the drama. “I try to stay out of that, so I don’t know too much. All I know is Ashley, since I was a kid, she’s been so sweet to me,” he remarked. He expressed disbelief that Tisdale could have acted maliciously towards her former friends, suggesting that the entire scenario might stem from a misunderstanding.
Andy Cohen, the show’s host, interjected with a wry comment, suggesting the situation might be more complex than just a misunderstanding. Efron acknowledged the possibility, saying, “Yeah, it is,” but maintained his defense of Tisdale, reiterating her kindness. He noted her support during his recent participation in “Dancing With the Stars,” where she attended to cheer him on from the audience. Efron remarked, “Like, I can’t see where this drama would come from,” reinforcing his view of Tisdale’s character.
Tisdale, 40, recently shared her experiences in an article for The Cut, revealing feelings of inadequacy after being excluded from social gatherings with her mom group. This exclusion led her to ultimately step away from those friendships. Initially, her publicist asserted that Tisdale was referencing a different group entirely, but this claim was contradicted when Matthew Koma, Duff’s husband, responded with a social media post that appeared to mock Tisdale.
As the situation unfolds, it is notable that Tisdale has unfollowed both Duff and Moore on Instagram, while still maintaining her connection with Trainor. The dynamics of their relationships remain uncertain as public interest continues to grow.
In defending Tisdale, Efron, who recently won the third season of “Traitors,” articulated a clear message: relationships should be navigated with kindness, and misunderstandings can often escalate into larger conflicts. His comments highlight the complexities of friendships in the public eye, especially among influential figures in the entertainment industry.
