Sandra Jean DeVos Huber, a cherished educator and community volunteer, passed away on November 10, 2025, in Duanesburg, New York. Born on November 3, 1945, in Albany to William and Sophia DeVos, she was known for her unwavering commitment to education and her deep love for reading and language.
After graduating from SUNY Albany with a B.A. in 1968, Sandra, affectionately known as Sandy, dedicated her life to nurturing others. She met her husband, Russell Huber, in the same year, and they married in 1976. Together, they raised two sons: William Huber, of Albany, and Carl (Aubrey) Huber, of Penfield.
Sandy’s influence extended beyond her family. She was an active participant in the Duanesburg Central School District, contributing her time to reading programs and the Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO). Additionally, she served as a den mother for Boy Scouts, fostering the growth of young boys in her community.
Her volunteer spirit led her to support initiatives such as PBS fundraising auctions and the WMHT RISE program, where she read for the print-disabled. Sandy also enjoyed a fulfilling career within the Schenectady County Public Library system, where her passion for literature could be shared with many.
Beyond her dedication to education and community service, Sandy had an array of personal interests. She delighted in reading mystery novels, creating stained glass art, embarking on road trips, and honing her culinary skills through cooking and baking.
Sandy is predeceased by her siblings, Catherine Agans and William DeVos, and is survived by her brother Kenneth DeVos. Her legacy continues through her devoted husband, Russ, her two sons, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who hold her memory dear.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, from 14:00 to 16:00 at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, located at 1779 Main St., Delanson, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to local PBS or National Public Radio stations in her name. Online condolences can be left at whitevanburenfuneralhome.com.
Sandy’s warm spirit and commitment to her community will be deeply missed, but her contributions to education and the lives she touched will long be remembered.
