Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud will miss his second consecutive game due to a concussion. The Texans are set to visit the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, November 12, 2023, without their starting quarterback who is still recovering from the injury sustained during a game against the Denver Broncos on November 2.
Stroud suffered the concussion early in the second quarter while scrambling for a 6-yard gain. He was hit on the shoulder by Kris Abrams-Draine, causing his head to collide violently with the ground. Although Abrams-Draine was initially penalized for unnecessary roughness, the call was later overturned after officials reviewed the play, determining there was no contact with Stroud’s head or neck.
Following the incident, Stroud remained on the field for several minutes while medical staff attended to him. He eventually walked to the sideline, entered the medical tent, and was later ruled out for the remainder of the game. This marks Stroud’s second concussion since he entered the NFL, with his first occurring in December 2023 against the New York Jets.
In Stroud’s absence, Davis Mills will once again take the reins as the starting quarterback. Mills had a strong performance last week, throwing two touchdown passes and running for a go-ahead score, leading the Texans to a remarkable comeback victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Texans rallied from a 19-point deficit in the fourth quarter to secure a 36-29 win.
The Texans will face additional challenges as they will also be without safety Jalen Pitre, who is sidelined due to a concussion sustained in the same game against the Broncos, and kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn, who is recovering from a quadriceps injury. Both players will miss their second game this week.
As the Texans prepare to take on the Titans, the team hopes to build on their recent momentum despite the injuries to key players. The matchup is set to commence at 18:00 UTC, and the Texans will be looking to keep their playoff hopes alive with a critical victory against their division rivals.
