Nintendo Launches Official Store App for iOS and Android

Nintendo has officially launched its long-awaited Nintendo Store app for both iOS and Android devices, expanding access to its eShop for fans across multiple regions. Initially released in Japan as the “My Nintendo” app five years ago, the app is now available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and much of Europe.

The Nintendo Store app allows users to browse and purchase a variety of products, including the latest Switch 2 and Switch consoles, hardware accessories, and both physical and digital games. Users can also find various Nintendo merchandise directly through the app. While the app does not facilitate in-app purchases—redirecting users to their device’s web browser—it still offers a more streamlined experience than navigating the mobile browser version of the Nintendo eShop.

To access certain features of the app, users must have a Nintendo account and network ID. This includes the ability to check historical gaming activity, which provides insights into what games users have played, when, and for how long. This data encompasses not only Switch and Switch 2 activity but also records from the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, although the latter two consoles will only display play activity up to February 2020. Previously, this information was accessible only by setting up parental controls.

Features and User Experience

In addition to its browsing capabilities, the app includes several features designed to enhance user engagement. Users can set up push notifications alerting them when items saved to their wish lists go on sale. The app also features a news feed that provides updates on the latest Nintendo games and events, keeping fans informed about new releases and promotions.

Another engaging aspect of the Nintendo Store app is the ability to earn rewards by checking in at official Nintendo stores and events. This gamified approach aims to deepen the connection between the brand and its fans, encouraging attendance at events and visits to physical locations.

Nintendo’s launch of this app comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance its digital offerings. The Nintendo Store app joins other dedicated applications such as Nintendo Music and the Nintendo Today newsfeed, which serve to keep fans connected and engaged with the brand.

As Nintendo continues to expand its digital ecosystem, the introduction of the Nintendo Store app marks a significant step towards improving accessibility for its global audience. With the app now available, fans can easily explore Nintendo’s vast catalog and stay updated on the latest offerings, making it a valuable addition to the gaming community’s digital tools.
