PHILADELPHIA, PA — The historic Cobbs Creek Golf Course has officially reopened, introducing a state-of-the-art driving range, a full-service restaurant, and a community event space. This revitalization, which commenced this week, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to restore one of Philadelphia’s cherished public golf venues.
New Facilities Enhance the Experience
At the center of this transformation is the newly completed Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek, featuring a two-story, high-tech driving range equipped with 68 Toptracer practice bays. Among these, 20 heated bays are available for reservations, catering to golfers year-round. The facility opens daily from 09:00 to 18:00, allowing patrons to enjoy both practice and dining, as food and beverages can be delivered directly to the bays.
The Little Horse Tavern, a collaboration between the Cobbs Creek Foundation, Fitler Club, and Strother Enterprises, offers a menu that includes classic golf course fare such as burgers, wood-fired pizzas, salads, and cocktails. Open daily from 12:00 to 20:00, the restaurant welcomes both reservations and walk-ins.
In addition to the driving range and dining options, the facility also includes a 200-plus person event space named 1916 by Fitler Club, commemorating the year Cobbs Creek Golf Course first opened. This venue is now available for private events and community gatherings.
Commitment to Community and Growth
The project reflects a strong partnership with Lincoln Financial, which has been a founding sponsor of the Cobbs Creek Foundation since March 2024. This collaboration emphasizes community engagement, with plans for educational and mentorship programs at the Cobbs Creek Golf and Education Campus. “We are proud to see the doors open at the new Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek,” said John Kennedy, Chief Distribution and Brand Officer at Lincoln Financial. He described the site as a year-round destination for golf, dining, and community events.
As part of the reopening, the Q School Short Course is set to launch, featuring a new nine-hole layout designed by TGR Design, the architecture firm founded by golf legend Tiger Woods. This course aims to introduce beginners to the sport while providing a space for experienced players to refine their skills.
Chris Parker, General Manager of the Cobbs Creek campus, expressed enthusiasm for the new offerings, inviting residents to come out and experience the revitalized space. The Cobbs Creek Foundation is currently working to raise $180 million to further restore and enhance the historic golf course, with the championship course restoration led by architects Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner underway and expected to open in 2027.
The reopening of Cobbs Creek Golf Course not only represents a significant investment in local recreation but also aims to foster a sense of community among Philadelphia residents. The initiative seeks to draw golfers and families back to the historic grounds, ensuring that Cobbs Creek remains a vibrant part of the city’s cultural and recreational landscape.
