Ben Crompton Takes Leadership Role at Fremantle as Global Head of Entertainment

Fremantle has announced the appointment of Ben Crompton as its new global head of entertainment, effective later this month. Crompton transitions to this role from NBCUniversal, where he served as vice president of international unscripted programming. His previous experience includes leading U.S. operations as executive vice president at Lime Pictures, the production company behind notable shows such as Netflix’s *Dance Monsters*, MTV’s *True Lies*, and ABC’s *Who Do You Believe?*

Throughout his career, Crompton has held prominent creative and strategic positions at several major companies, including Warner Brothers in Australia, Eyeworks, and ITV Studios in the U.K. This diverse background contributes to his strong understanding of the industry from both a developmental and commercial perspective.

Crompton’s Vision and Leadership Transition

In a statement, Crompton expressed his enthusiasm about joining Fremantle, stating, “It is a great honour for me to be joining Fremantle and to work with Jennifer Mullin and such a brilliant team. I have long admired Fremantle – a company known for creativity, innovation, and groundbreaking formats. I can’t wait to get started and collaborate with the exceptional talent across the Fremantle business.”

Crompton succeeds Andrew Llinares, who resigned from the position last month after three years. Mullin, the Global CEO of Fremantle, welcomed Crompton to the team, emphasizing his business acumen and industry expertise. “He is a business-minded leader with a deep understanding of the industry, not only from a development and production perspective but also from a commercial and strategic viewpoint,” she noted.

Fremantle’s Strategic Growth and Recent Hires

Crompton’s appointment aligns with Fremantle’s strategic growth initiatives, which have seen the company make several key hires recently. Last month, Jhamal Robinson was named the head of U.S. productions, overseeing both scripted and unscripted content. Additionally, Emily Knight has taken on the role of senior vice president of unscripted development. These changes reflect Fremantle’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the competitive entertainment landscape.

In January, Fremantle experienced another significant leadership shift when Christian Vesper stepped down as CEO of Global Drama and Film after a decade in the role. Under the ownership of RTL Group, a major German broadcaster, Fremantle has established itself as one of the world’s leading independent production companies. The organization boasts a diverse portfolio of globally recognized formats, including *Masked Singer*, *The X Factor*, and *Got Talent*.

According to the company’s own reports, Fremantle delivered 345 commissions and 302 productions across 62 territories last year, underscoring its robust operational capabilities and widespread influence in the entertainment industry. As the company moves forward, Crompton’s leadership is anticipated to drive further innovation and creative excellence within the organization.
