Warriors’ Kuminga DNP as Team Triumphs Over Bulls, 123-91

UPDATE: In a stunning turn of events, the Golden State Warriors secured a decisive 123-91 victory over the Chicago Bulls on December 3, 2023, but it came at the cost of Jonathan Kuminga, who did not play despite key injuries to Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Just announced, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr opted to exclude Kuminga from the active roster, a surprising move given the team’s current depth issues. “Happens to everybody pretty much, other than the stars,” Kerr stated regarding his decision. Kuminga’s absence raises questions about his future with the team, especially after a tumultuous offseason highlighted by a drawn-out free agency.

Despite being the Warriors’ fourth-highest paid player, with a $46.8 million contract, Kuminga’s role has fluctuated significantly. After starting the season strong, contributing to a 4-1 record, his performance has since waned, leading to inconsistent playing time. He has struggled to find his rhythm, shooting just 30% in his last four games, including a dismal 1-for-10 outing against the Cavaliers.

In a strategic shift, Kerr turned to reserve player Gui Santos to fill Kuminga’s role, a decision that further complicates Kuminga’s standing on the team. “This is how the league works,” Kerr emphasized, highlighting the competitive nature of the league where every player must earn their spot. Kuminga’s response to Kerr’s message was pragmatic: “Whenever my number get called, I’ll be ready.”

The Warriors displayed depth in their win against the Bulls, with standout performances from Pat Spencer and Brandin Podziemski, each contributing significantly to the scoreline. The victory marks the Warriors’ second consecutive road win, improving their record to 13-12.

Looking ahead, the Warriors will have a crucial four-day break before facing the Timberwolves on December 8, when both Curry and Green are expected to return. This will likely push Kuminga further down the rotation, raising speculation about his future with the team. Sources indicate the Warriors are actively exploring trade options for Kuminga, who becomes eligible for trade on January 15.

Kuminga remains focused and determined, stating, “I believe in my game and feel good about my game. I just gotta be a professional.” He is committed to staying prepared, knowing the dynamics of the NBA can shift rapidly.

As the Warriors navigate their upcoming schedule and potential roster changes, Kuminga’s situation will be one to watch closely. The emotional stakes are high, not just for his career, but for the team’s aspirations this season.

Follow along for the latest updates on Kuminga and the Warriors as they continue their campaign and seek to stabilize their roster amid ongoing challenges.
