Urgent Update: Rain Hits Pasadena Ahead of Rose Parade 2025

UPDATE: Pasadena is experiencing significant rain as preparations for the 2025 Rose Parade reach their final stages. This marks the first rainfall on the parade in 20 years and only the 11th time in its 137-year history.

Today, December 31, 2025, the National Weather Service confirmed a near 100% chance of rain for tomorrow’s event, prompting thousands of spectators to line up along the 5.5-mile parade route equipped with ponchos and umbrellas. While decorators hustle to finalize the floats, the rain is a stark reminder of the unpredictability of Southern California weather.

Officials report that a strong storm system has moved into the area from the south, expected to deliver heavy showers into New Year’s Day. This weather event will likely lead to a soggy celebration, dampening the spirits of parade-goers camping out overnight.

Lisa Derderian, spokesperson for Pasadena, stated, “I feel confident the City is prepared. We are in constant communication with the National Weather Service and our partners at the Tournament of Roses.” She reassured the public that extensive planning has taken place to handle various scenarios, with personnel deployed at all levels to ensure a smooth event.

City officials have implemented strict guidelines for attendees, including a ban on umbrellas along the parade route. This rule aims to ensure that everyone has an unobstructed view of the floats, which this year features a theme of “The Magic in Teamwork.” Attendees are encouraged to wear ponchos or rain jackets instead, with such items readily available at local stores.

The last time rain affected the Rose Parade was in 2006, and even then, attendees remained enthusiastic despite the weather. Many, like Jena Walker from Kentucky, have traveled to Pasadena with high hopes for a memorable experience. Walker expressed her excitement, saying, “A little precipitation isn’t going to rain on my parade. I get to see California in the rain!”

As thousands gear up for the festivities, residents and visitors are reminded to prepare for the rain and follow city regulations. The parade, featuring grand marshal Magic Johnson, promises to be a magnificent spectacle, rain or shine.

As the clock ticks down to the Rose Parade, the atmosphere in Pasadena is electric with anticipation. Spectators and participants alike are ready to welcome the new year with joy, despite the wet conditions.

Stay tuned for live updates as this developing story unfolds, and prepare to share your Rose Parade experiences!
