URGENT UPDATE: Two suspects are in custody following the recovery of a stolen Amazon delivery van loaded with Christmas presents. Just after 11:30 a.m. on December 22, Nottinghamshire Police were alerted to the theft of the van from Kilton Hill.
Officers from West Bassetlaw swiftly utilized the van’s onboard tracker, initiating a pursuit down the A1 towards Newark. Automatic number plate recognition cameras revealed a Peugeot van traveling alongside the Amazon delivery vehicle, raising suspicions of organized theft.
Upon reaching Newark, police located the abandoned Amazon van on Kings Road, discovering all the stolen parcels intact. A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and burglary, while the Peugeot was traced to Tolney Lane, where a 24-year-old man was similarly apprehended. Both suspects have been released on police bail as the investigation continues.
Sergeant Mark Talbot of the neighborhood policing team commended the officers’ efforts, stating:
“Officers responding to this incident did a fantastic job to make it happen, using a range of methods to not only recover the stolen van but detain two suspects.”
He added that the timely recovery of the parcels was a relief, especially with the holiday season approaching.
