BREAKING: Timothée Chalamet is pulling out all the stops for his final portrayal of Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, slated to hit theaters on December 18. At a recent Variety town hall in Austin, TX, Chalamet emphasized his commitment to making this installment “sacred,” signaling a thrilling transformation in his performance.
Chalamet revealed that this will be “my last time doing a Dune film,” pushing him to approach the role with heightened intensity. He cited the impactful performance of Oscar Isaac, who portrayed Paul’s father, Leto, in Dune: Part One. Isaac’s Shakespearean approach greatly influenced Chalamet, inspiring him to “take more liberty than ever” with his character.
Reflecting on his journey, Chalamet noted, “I was coming off of Beautiful Boy and Call Me by Your Name, movies that were a lot more naturalistic.” He felt challenged by the film’s futurism but is now ready to embrace the creative freedom that comes with the third installment. He stated, “all the great stuff you see on screen is from freedom of movement and freedom of choice.”
In a nod to cinematic greatness, Chalamet draws inspiration from legendary performances, citing Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight and Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now for their ability to “sneak in something” special into their roles. With Denis Villeneuve as director, Chalamet expressed the duo’s established “really good rhythm,” making this film a “big swing” and possibly the “eerliest one” in the franchise.
As anticipation builds for Dune: Part Three, fans can expect a unique blend of creativity and intensity, promising to redefine the Dune experience. Stay tuned for more updates as the December release date approaches!
