A rapid police response resulted in the arrest of a woman already wanted by authorities following a reported burglary in Wilmington, Delaware. The incident occurred on January 6, 2024, at approximately 09:39 AM, when a member of the Wilmington Police Department was alerted to an alleged daytime break-in in the 800 block of North Shipley Street.
Upon receiving the call, the officer quickly gathered a description of the suspect. Acting promptly, the officer initiated a canvass of the surrounding area. Within a short period, the officer identified a woman matching the provided description in the 100 block of Burton Place. The individual was confirmed to be Emily Popkey, 40 years old, who was subsequently taken into custody without incident.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Following her arrest, Popkey was charged with third-degree burglary and theft under $1,500. Authorities also confirmed that she had an outstanding warrant at the time of her apprehension. After her arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 20, she was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a secured bail of $4,000.
