The assault occurred around 3:30 PM, when armed assailants brandished knives and forcibly dragged the woman into a room. Disturbingly, the attackers recorded the brutal incident, compelling another staff member to lie beside the victim. The gang fled the scene with Rs 2,500 (approximately $33), reportedly after a money dispute related to an earlier demand for Rs 50,000 (about $656) from the spa owner.
Local police have confirmed that the gang was led by Subin Alexander, a 29-year-old career criminal with a notorious history, including 11 pending cases for various crimes. Alexander had recently been released on bail under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act. During his apprehension on February 3, he allegedly unleashed a dog on law enforcement, injuring two officers.
Authorities have also taken Berlin Das, a 38-year-old man, into custody in connection with the attack. He was arrested on February 4 and faces assault charges. Initially, the victim hesitated to report the crime, likely due to intimidation from the assailants. However, police have since gathered CCTV evidence and are actively pursuing leads to locate the remaining four suspects.
Local officer statements indicate that the investigation is ongoing. “There are six accused in the case. We have arrested four of them, including Subin. Two of the arrested persons have been remanded to judicial custody, while two others are in custody for questioning,” an official told South First.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community of Thiruvalla, known as “Temple Town.” It serves as a major commercial center in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, recognized for its rich cultural heritage and ancient temples.
