Shohei Ohtani’s Historic 3 HRs Propel Dodgers to NLCS Sweep

UPDATE: Shohei Ohtani has led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a stunning 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, sweeping the NL Championship Series and booking their ticket to the World Series. This remarkable performance unfolded in Game 4 on October 27, 2023, as Ohtani hit three home runs and struck out ten batters, marking a historic night for the three-time MVP.

The Dodgers are now on the brink of becoming baseball’s first repeat World Series champions in 25 years. Ohtani, who was named NLCS MVP, shattered postseason expectations with this unforgettable display, igniting the crowd and solidifying his legacy.

“It was really fun on both sides of the ball today,” Ohtani said through his interpreter. “As a representative of the team, I’m taking this trophy, and let’s get four more wins.”

Ohtani made history with a leadoff home run, the first by a pitcher in major league history, off Brewers starter José Quintana. He followed this with a staggering 469-foot blast in the fourth inning and capped it off with a solo shot in the seventh, becoming just the 12th player in MLB history to hit three homers in a playoff game. His homers traveled a combined 1,342 feet.

In addition to his offensive explosion, Ohtani (2-0) showcased his pitching prowess, allowing only two hits through nearly seven innings. His performance included a personal-best 10 strikeouts in a postseason game, leaving fans and teammates in awe.

“Sometimes you’ve got to check yourself and touch him to make sure he’s not just made of steel,” said Freddie Freeman, last season’s World Series MVP. “Absolutely incredible. Biggest stage, and he goes out and does something like that.”

The Dodgers are now the first team to win back-to-back pennants since the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009. This victory marks their return to the World Series for the fifth time in nine seasons, with a chance to be the first team to repeat since the New York Yankees’ three consecutive championships from 1998 to 2000.

Ohtani’s historic night capped off a dominant 9-1 playoff run for the Dodgers, who are now headed to the World Series for the 23rd time in franchise history. They will await the winner of the American League Championship Series, with the Seattle Mariners leading the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 after a 6-2 victory earlier today.

Despite setting a franchise record for wins this season, the Brewers faced a disappointing exit, eliminated by the Dodgers for the third time in their recent playoff history. With their bats silenced, Milwaukee struggled against a formidable Dodgers rotation that allowed just two earned runs over the series.

The Dodgers had never achieved a sweep in the NLCS in their 16 previous appearances, making this accomplishment even more significant. Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts celebrated the moment, proclaiming, “Let’s get four more wins and really ruin baseball!” as the team and fans rejoiced.

As the Dodgers prepare for the World Series, the excitement surrounding Ohtani’s extraordinary performance is palpable. Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating how the Dodgers will fare in their quest for another championship, with the first game set to take place next Friday.
