URGENT UPDATE: Police have launched investigations into two alarming incidents occurring on St. Croix and St. Thomas that have left one man hospitalized and another in custody.
In the first incident, a 31-year-old man, Chavez Ali, was arrested early Sunday morning on St. Croix after allegedly assaulting and strangling a family member. The V.I. Police Department received a distress call at approximately 5:39 a.m. from the victim, who reported that Ali had “strangled him and threatened to kill him.” Immediate police response led to the victim being transported to Luis Hospital for urgent medical care.
According to authorities, the violent episode occurred the previous evening around 7:30 p.m., during which Ali displayed erratic behavior and physically assaulted the victim, causing serious injuries and loss of consciousness. Police located Ali at his residence later and took him into custody. He faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault (domestic violence) and simple assault (domestic violence). Ali has been booked and is awaiting a hearing at the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility.
Meanwhile, on St. Thomas, police are investigating a separate, critical situation involving a gunshot victim found late Sunday night. At around 10:08 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in Simmonds Alley. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. Emergency medical services swiftly transported him to Schneider Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
