UPDATE: In a thrilling Southwestern Conference clash, the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs edged the Avon Eagles with a score of 58-50 on January 23, 2026, solidifying their position in the conference race. This victory marks Olmsted Falls’ second consecutive win, improving their record to 9-5 overall and 7-2 in the SWC.
The Bulldogs showcased resilience despite being undersized, dominating the turnover battle with a 12-4 margin in the first half. Olmsted Falls took control early, leading 27-18 in the second quarter thanks to significant scoring runs. However, Avon battled back, narrowing the deficit to 27-23 by halftime.
Head Coach Chris DeLisio emphasized the importance of grit and teamwork, stating, “We are not going to outjump people necessarily, but I thought our guards did a really nice job on the glass.” The physicality of the game was evident, with Avon Coach Mike Fitch noting, “(Olmsted Falls) bullied us on the boards.”
As the second half commenced, Olmsted Falls unleashed a decisive 9-0 run, extending their lead and maintaining it throughout the game. Star player Christopher Tenn led the Bulldogs with 20 points, reflecting on the team’s effort: “I liked that we were physical on defense. On offense, I like how we moved the ball around.”
Teammates Mason Cerovac contributed 13 points, while Keegan Smith added 10, demonstrating a strong collective performance. On the Eagles’ side, All-Ohio forward Joey Ziegler topped the scoring for Avon with 18 points, but fell short in the fourth quarter, despite a late rally where he scored 13 points.
The Eagles, now 9-5 overall and 4-5 in the SWC, are on a three-game losing streak. Fitch acknowledged the challenges faced: “When you miss something and (Olmsted Falls) hits something, there is a big run. I am proud of our guys for continuing to fight.” The Eagles will hit the road again on January 27 to face Gilmour.
Looking ahead, Olmsted Falls is set for a rematch against Berea-Midpark on February 6, after a pivotal game against Amherst on January 30, where they seek redemption after a previous 64-59 loss. Coach DeLisio remarked, “You enjoy it for 24 hours, and when you wake up the next day, you think, ‘Oh my gosh, we have another tough one.’”
