Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Safe After Home Break-In

UPDATE: Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander confirmed that he and his family are safe following a troubling break-in at their Oklahoma City-area home last week. The incident occurred while the NBA’s reigning MVP was playing a game on October 12, 2023, against the Washington Wizards.

Speaking after the Thunder’s victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, Gilgeous-Alexander stated, “Long story short, everybody’s safe, and that’s all that really matters in the whole thing.” He expressed relief, saying, “Everything else will come and go, but my loved ones are safe, so I’m OK. I’m happy.”

The break-in took place around 7:45 PM on Thursday, with local police in Nichols Hills responding to a burglary report. Officers confirmed that the suspects fled the scene before they arrived and stated, “While no arrests have been made, there is no reason to believe the public is in any danger.” However, police have not disclosed whether anyone was home at the time or if any valuables were taken.

This incident is part of a concerning trend, with professional athletes increasingly targeted in home burglaries. Recent months have seen similar break-ins affecting high-profile sports figures, including Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Luka Doncic. Law enforcement officials have previously warned that thieves often strike on game days, knowing players are away from home, typically breaking in through rear windows.

As authorities continue their investigation, the community remains on alert. Gilgeous-Alexander’s assurance about his family’s safety provides a sense of relief amid rising concerns about the safety of public figures and their homes.

Fans and local residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help ensure their neighborhoods remain secure. With the investigation ongoing, many are left wondering what measures will be taken to protect athletes and their families moving forward.
