Mets Eye Major Shakeup: Want to Trade All-Star Kodai Senga

UPDATE: The New York Mets are reportedly looking to cut ties with All-Star pitcher Kodai Senga after two tumultuous seasons, according to USA Today‘s Bob Nightengale. As the Mets miss the postseason yet again, the team is considering significant changes to their struggling starting rotation.

The Mets are facing a critical juncture as they assess their roster following a disappointing season. Senga, who started strong but was hampered by injuries, is now at the center of trade discussions. Early in the season, he boasted the best ERA in the majors at 1.47, but a hamstring injury derailed his performance, leading to a second-half ERA of 4.73 after his return.

Senga’s struggles have led the Mets to contemplate moving on from him entirely. Nightengale reported that the decision is not solely in Senga’s hands, despite his desire to remain with the team.

“The Mets want to move on from Kodai Senga,”

Nightengale stated on Sunday, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

In his rookie season, Senga earned an impressive 2.98 ERA and secured an All-Star spot. However, injuries plagued him throughout the 2024 season, limiting him to just one regular-season start. This track record has prompted the Mets to seek out potential trades, which could help address their need for outfield assistance or open up space for younger pitchers in their rotation.

The Mets are diving into the pitching market with a keen eye, but trading Senga won’t be easy. The team must find a partner willing to overlook his injury history, a challenge that could complicate their plans for a much-needed roster overhaul.

As fans and analysts await further developments, the Mets’ management is under pressure to make impactful decisions before the upcoming season. The fate of Senga and the future of the Mets’ rotation hangs in the balance, making this a pivotal moment for the franchise.

Stay tuned for live updates as this story develops.
