UPDATE: Travelers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) will experience a significant upgrade as the largest interior renovation of Terminal 1 has just been completed. The $242 million project, a collaboration between the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) and Delta Air Lines, brings a modern, vibrant look to the terminal just in time for the busy holiday travel season.
Renovations, which began in the fall of 2023, have transformed the interior of Terminal 1, enhancing the passenger experience throughout the airport. With Delta holding a 70% market share at MSP, this upgrade is crucial for accommodating the vast number of travelers passing through this major hub.
Brian Ryks, CEO of the MAC, stated, “In a matter of two years, we have witnessed a major transformation of the post-security areas of Terminal 1 that elevates the passenger experience — from the checkpoints to the gate areas.” The improvements focus on creating a unified and modern design across six of the airport’s seven concourses, including 75 Delta gate hold rooms.
Key enhancements include new terrazzo or carpet flooring, wall finishes, and energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures. The renovation also features “dynamic gate signs” that provide real-time flight and destination information, allowing travelers to plan their journeys more efficiently.
These renovations coincide with the completion of the Airport Modernization Program, a ten-year effort costing $182.5 million from the MAC and $60 million from Delta. This program has revamped all pre-security areas, including checkpoints, ticketing, and baggage claim, ensuring a seamless travel experience.
As travelers arrive at MSP this holiday season, they can expect upgraded gate areas with new seating, carpeting, counters, and signage, making their journey more comfortable and enjoyable. The improvements reflect a commitment to enhancing customer service at MSP, which has consistently received awards for its traveler-friendly amenities.
With these significant upgrades now complete, passengers can look forward to a brighter and more welcoming experience at MSP this winter. Stay tuned for more updates as MSP continues to enhance its facilities for travelers around the globe.
