Maccabi GB has marked a significant year of accomplishments that reflect its enduring commitment to community, sport, and education. The organization has focused on fostering Jewish identity and pride while addressing contemporary challenges faced by Jewish communities in Britain.
Emphasizing Community and Sport
In 2025, Maccabi GB delivered one of its largest inter-school sports programs, with over 6,000 children participating in competitions across football, netball, and multi-sport events. These initiatives not only promote physical activity but also enhance teamwork, confidence, and a sense of belonging among young Jewish individuals.
The organization’s grassroots sports programs have also expanded, introducing a diverse range of activities including pickleball, padel, and 3×3 basketball. This breadth of offerings ensures that sport remains accessible to individuals of varying ages and interests. The annual Community Fun Run attracted thousands, featuring 99 charities and underscoring the power of collective participation within the Jewish community in the UK.
On the international stage, Maccabi GB athletes are preparing to compete in the upcoming Maccabiah Games in Israel, following a postponement due to global circumstances. The team’s participation not only highlights athletic excellence but also embodies the values of responsibility and respect inherent in Jewish life.
Addressing Antisemitism Through Education
Maccabi GB has taken proactive steps to combat antisemitism, a pressing issue facing Jewish communities today. In response to rising incidents, the organization has implemented the “Tackling Antisemitism in Sport” program, collaborating with various stakeholders in the British sports sector. This initiative aims to create awareness and foster dialogue regarding antisemitism and its impact on individuals and communities.
The culmination of this effort was the Tackling Antisemitism in Sport Symposium, which convened over 120 senior leaders from sports and civil society to reinforce a collective commitment to inclusion. Additionally, the Streetwise program has reached more than 23,000 young people, focusing on contemporary antisemitism and personal safety through practical workshops.
Maccabi GB’s outreach extends beyond the Jewish community. Through the “Stand Up! Education Against Discrimination” initiative, the organization has engaged with over 17,500 young people from diverse backgrounds to address prejudice and promote understanding.
Efforts to affirm Jewish life in the face of adversity are evident in initiatives like the Chanukah Torch Relay, which engaged with over 3,000 primary school children and community members across the UK. This event symbolizes resilience and the joy of Jewish celebration, reinforcing the importance of visibility and connection within the community.
As Maccabi GB reflects on a year marked by achievements and challenges, the organization recognizes the invaluable contributions of its volunteers, staff, and trustees. Their collective efforts have laid a strong foundation for future growth and engagement.
Looking ahead, Maccabi GB is poised to continue its mission of strengthening Jewish life and fostering a sense of pride and integration within British society. The organization remains committed to its vision of a healthy, active, and proud Jewish community, united in purpose and action.
