URGENT UPDATE: Art enthusiasts have just two days left to experience the acclaimed Charles B. Rogers Collection at the Great Bend Public Library before it returns to the Shafer Art Gallery. Don’t miss the closing reception this Friday, August 29, from 3-5 p.m., featuring snacks, beverages, and a rare opportunity to engage with gallery representatives about the stunning pieces on display.
This event is not just about art; it’s a celebration of community creativity. The collection showcases the talent of local artists, making it a must-see before it departs. As September approaches, don’t forget that it also marks the beginning of National Library Card Sign-Up Month. If your library card is lost or worn, you can get a free replacement throughout September.
IMPORTANT: The library will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day, but regular business hours will resume the following day.
Looking ahead, the library is gearing up for an exciting fall programming lineup. Starting Tuesday, September 2, the beloved Baby Bounce and Early Literacy Story Times return at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively. These sessions are designed to foster early literacy skills through engaging activities for children aged 0-5. Every child attending story time will be entered into a drawing for a free book!
Additionally, teens in grades 6-12 are invited to the Teen Café on Tuesday afternoon from 4-5:30 p.m., where they can enjoy coffee and hot chocolate while creating Artist Trading Cards—miniature artworks that can be exchanged with artists worldwide.
On Thursday, September 4, at 6 p.m., the library will host Delicious Dishes, a cooking class where participants will learn to tweak popular recipes from their favorite restaurants. This event is open to all ages, but attendees under 10 must be accompanied by someone aged 16 or older.
For those interested in tabletop role-playing games, the Tabletop Teens miniseries kicks off on select Fridays starting September 12. Join fellow adventurers for a thrilling experience in an extradimensional warzone where players will face challenges and work together to maintain order.
