Kenley Jansen Declares “Four More Years!” Amid Free Agency Buzz

UPDATE: Kenley Jansen, the Los Angeles Angels closer, is gearing up for a significant offseason after a season-ending loss against the Houston Astros, declaring his ambition for “four more years” in the league. Following the 6-2 defeat on September 24, 2023, Jansen made it clear that retirement is not on his radar.

“The offseason begins tomorrow. No kidding. I’m getting in my gym at 5 a.m.,” Jansen said, emphasizing his commitment to getting stronger and quicker. As he approaches his 38th birthday this Tuesday, Jansen’s resolve to continue playing at a high level is evident.

Jansen has had an impressive season, finishing with a 2.59 ERA over 62 games, and converting 29 of 30 save opportunities. Notably, he did not allow a hit in his last 10 innings across his final appearances, solidifying his status as a top closer in Major League Baseball.

Interim manager Ray Montgomery praised Jansen’s performance. “He’s a Hall of Famer who knows what he needs to do to be ready to save games,” Montgomery stated, comparing him to legendary closer Mariano Rivera. Jansen now sits at 476 career saves, just two short of Lee Smith, and Montgomery believes he can surpass both Smith and reach the coveted 500-save mark.

Despite the Angels finishing last in the American League West with a 72-90 record and an 11-year playoff drought, Jansen expressed a desire to remain with the team. “I love this clubhouse, and these guys deserve better,” he said, highlighting his commitment to helping the organization return to postseason glory.

Jansen signed a $10 million one-year deal earlier this year and is set to enter free agency this winter. His future is uncertain, but his dedication to the sport and his teammates is unwavering. “In an open market, you never know where you’re going to end up,” Jansen noted, leaving fans and analysts alike eager to see what comes next.

As Jansen prepares for a rigorous offseason training regimen, baseball enthusiasts will be closely watching his next moves. Will he remain an Angel, or will he take his talents elsewhere in pursuit of more postseason opportunities? Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
